The first ten minutes inside a product decide more than any landing page does, and this quarter's launches make it obvious that product teams know it. We pulled five recent onboarding-specific releases and looked past the press-release language to the actual friction each one removes.
Progressive setup is the biggest shift: instead of a ten-field form before a user sees any value, several products now ask for one piece of information at a time, right when it is needed, and let the user reach a working state before being asked for anything else. Guided in-app agents are the second pattern, walking a new user through their first real task rather than a generic tour of buttons nobody remembers five minutes later. Redesigned empty states are the quieter third pattern: a blank dashboard now often comes with one clearly marked next action instead of a wall of nothing.
The metric behind all five of these launches is the same one: how many users complete a meaningful first action before they close the tab and never come back. That number moves more from removing one confusing step than from adding a polished welcome screen, which is a useful thing to remember before spending a design sprint on the wrong problem.
Three patterns any early-stage builder can copy this month without a redesign: ask for one thing at a time instead of a form; make the first empty screen point at exactly one next action; and replace a generic product tour with a single guided task that gets the user to a real result.
